Welcome to the VoidScreen Journal

Procreate tutorials, digital art tips, artist interviews, and news from the VoidScreen studio. Here’s what we’re planning.

A brush catches the grain just right. A rough sketch suggests a direction you hadn’t considered. One small change to a setting makes a familiar tool feel different.

Those moments are worth exploring. We’re starting the VoidScreen Journal to share practical ideas for drawing and painting, take a closer look at digital art tools, and talk with the artists who use them.

We’ll begin with Procreate, with plans to explore Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity, and Clip Studio Paint as the Journal grows.

Procreate tutorials and practical guides

Our first focus will be drawing and painting in Procreate: getting comfortable with your brushes, working with layers, and understanding how different choices affect the finished image.

We’ll explore questions that come up while making art. How do you keep a pencil sketch loose? What gives digital watercolor a convincing sense of paper and pigment? How can you add texture without losing the shapes underneath?

Some articles will walk through a painting process step by step. Others will focus on a single technique or help with the basics, such as installing a brush set and finding your way around its tools. We want the explanations to be clear enough to follow, with examples that show what each decision changes.

Tips, tricks, and experiments

Alongside longer tutorials, we’ll share shorter notes you can try during a drawing session.

Expect ideas for adjusting brush behavior, building a limited palette, combining marks, and finding a workflow that suits the way you draw. There’s room here for experiments, too: trying an unfamiliar texture, leaving a sketch unfinished in the right places, or using a brush for something unexpected.

The aim is to give you a useful starting point and enough context to make the technique your own.

Artist interviews and creative process

We’re planning conversations with artists about how their work takes shape, from early sketches to finished pieces.

We want to ask about the decisions behind the image: how they choose references, what they do when a composition stalls, and which habits have stayed with them over time. We’re also interested in the rough versions and changes of direction that a finished portfolio rarely shows.

News from the VoidScreen studio

The Journal will also be a place for new releases, tool updates, and notes from the making of VoidScreen brushes and resources.

We’ll share development details where they help explain a tool: the marks we’re working toward, the textures behind them, and how a set changes through testing. When we introduce something new, we’ll look at ways to use it in your work.

Beyond Procreate

Procreate is our starting point. In time, we plan to cover Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity, and Clip Studio Paint, with guides shaped around the tools and workflows of each application.

For now, you can explore VoidScreen’s digital art tools or visit the installation guide if you’re setting up a brush set. To hear about new articles and releases, join the mailing list at the bottom of the page.
